Journal 6, The Hobbit Revised

From http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2012/11/29/hobbit-peter-jackson-talks-smaug-cameo-creature-design/

Finally! The beginning of the great tale comes to film (and no...I'm not talking about the big bang), The Hobbits Tolkiens first book before the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I for one am pleased that Peter Jackson is the one directing it after finishing the L.O.T.R. series several years by. I for one are most eager to see the Hobbit (granted the midnight showing isn't going to happen....but that's more due to disliking crowds of people). In prepation for the movie I found a neat article where Peter Jackson talks about the changes in technology since the LOTR, going into how Gollum is going to be much more life-like giving the advances in motion capture and CGI over the last couple of years. Then there's going to be something quite fun (for someone like me that is), which is the Dragon Smaug will have an appearance in the first of the three movies.

Journal 4, The End? Revised

From. http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/subcultures/zombies

I've always found it intriguing that people are seeming obsessed with the idea of the world ending under a mountain of zombies (my roommate being one of them). Figured I'd take a moment to throw my two cents in on the booming pop culture concept of zombies. Seeing ad the movie  World War Z  just released a trailer full of thrilling eye candy for zombie people. The movie is based off of a best selling book about humanity's struggle and eventual  victory over the zombie plague. I've had the chance to read this book by  Max Brooks, I found it truly engaging but I digress, with the huge popularly with the world ending via zombies it begs a question, it's the world that  bad of a place that having to run from zombies seem like a good thing?
I mean, it's puzzling to me at the huge boom in culture surrounding it, often by those of slightly social awkwardness makes me wonder if many of the fans actually desire that state of the world, followed by the question of how can a society produce a person (people) the so desires the destruction of everything around them. I find the answer to that question much more troubling than the byproduct of zombies.

Journal-Make up the Jets, Jets, Jets

So, it never ceases to amaze how make people rant and rave about one of the worst football teams in the NFL while many of the better teams go by silent(ish). The team I'm talking about is the New York Jets, and the ever-present media outlet that this team is. I can re-cap, first week Sanchiz does a great job as a QB no issues but it's been more or less a rocket ride straight down from there. As he has Tim Tebow sitting on the bench as the backup QB, and people want him in the game. This week things came to a head as Rex Ryan (Jets coach) benched Sanchiz in favor of an unknown and unheard off Greg Elroy. Against the Cardinals after Sanchiz was benched the backups (Tebow) back up helped the Jets to win the game, giving their offense signs of life. Now the fun and media out-pouring really begins thi s week with ten thousand and one questions about whether Elroy should start over both Sanchiz and Tebow(who is injuried). Yay for that, but isn't there a point when people should give it a break about but one NFL team? There's 31 others, and at least 29 of them deserve more attention than the Jets at this point.

Cheers

Journal 4.5-Football

It was a delightful surprise when I awoke from the next-to-dead sleep on Tuesday to find out that in the battle of the back-up Quarterbacks (the 49ers and bears) that our beloved north rival was soundly whipped by the red and gold. Seeing this I found an article by  Bill Barnwell  called "Fourth-and-Short: Niners Dish Out a Recipe of Whoop-a%%". Upon reading the article the author does a wonderful job explaining why the 9ers came away with a win against the Bears. Its nice to have someone actually break down a scheme in football to understand whats truly going on behind the big plays. It was a double delight when it was a game in which the Bears lost. That said it is great to see that a back up was able to step up and performon game time handling the bears their third loss of the season.

Just a placeholder for the time being but I'll have something infinitely more interesting soon! Busy trying to catch up on everything since I had a bit of a run in with a wood splitter (the machine won by the way I wouldn't recommend crossing one of those mean spirited machine it oft ends poorly)

Film Analyst- Inception: The End?

I picked the scene at the end of the movie as I feel it wraps out the piece in a wonderful way, while holding true to a theme of the movie that keeps the viewer guessing exactly what happened. At the end of the movie, Cobb (Main Character) awakes from Limbo, glancing around the 1st class of the plane you see all of the other characters awaking from the dream and getting up. Sato waking up looking at Cobb before making a phone call. Then it moves to Cobb stepping up to immigration to get into the USA, after a long nervous pause Cobb is allowed to pass, where he grabs his bags and you again see all of the characters (his friends/allies giving him a bit of a farewell nod) before it shows him walking to meet his Father-in-law which then fades to showing Cobb walking into his old home and the father in-law calling out to Cobb's Children, Cobb meanwhile takes out his top and spins it on the table. It then shows Cobb looking at the children and the audience finally his children faces leaving the top to spin on the table as he goes to them. Then as the camera fades out it shows the Top on the table beginning to wobble on the table.

I believe this scene is important as it ends the movie leaving the audience guessing whether or not Cobb and Sato actually got out of Limbo (endless Dream-land) or it is merely a dream of Cobb, as this scene drives home the question "Is this real or am I still sleeping?", or even "What is real?" giving the audience a philosophical question to ponder as the piece closes. As it shows unclear that Cobb got "out" or not, while reinforcing one of the main themes of the Film that Cobb can't tell whether he is dreaming or not without such a small item as a top.

Journal 2: A bit on Science Fiction and Lord of the Rings.

I found the film Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the ring to be a most moving piece of film. The formal elements of the film are likely the cause for the reaction, as the camera work itself portrayed a sense of “epic” often using shots for a great distance to portray the landscape around the characters before zooming into them. The story itself is also a moving experience as it portrays a simple hobbit that eventually comes to save the world he didn’t even understand at the start of the film.
I generally like to trend back and forth between science fiction and really historical fiction, but I’ll merely focus on the science fiction part. With science fiction I feel it is largely a mix of formal and cultural elements that influence me, as by in large I like to believe that I watch science fiction as a means to look forward, a means for new ideas or current idea’s taken into a new form. This largely appeals to the scientist nature of me as I desire to see innovation and progress rather than looking towards things set in more modern times. An example would like something like Batman Begins, or Inception, or even something like Star wars (the original not to be confused with the new films) where they either bring in new ideas prompting the “what if” question (hyperspace in star wars) or something that very likely isn’t that far out of our reach (many of batman’s gadgets) as a means to show technological progress.

Cheers

Movement of the absolutely unintended nature

Unfortunately due to a sad event of absolute memory failure I had to move my original blog to this page.
